The town theatre of Děčín

The town theatre of Děčín is the only theatre building located in the town. You can find it in Teplická Street (Teplická ulice) in Děčín IV (on the left bank of the river Elbe, in the quarter called „Podmokly“) only a few minutes on foot from the centre of the town in the direction to the town Teplice.

At the beginning of the 20 th century there was built a music-hall. A new owner G.F.Pilz built a new stage and space for tight-ropedancers and he spread new possibilities to use the hall: besides music-hall and dance productions there were also screened films and theatre was played. German and Czech ensembles both play and opera guested here.

Since 1990 Děčín Theatre has become independent facilities and a temporary „programme mixture“ has been substituted for the theatre stage carrying out. In 1995 a transformation of principle of the theatre building started to be changed into a stall of art.

In the first phase of the reconstruction there was completely rebuilt an entry aerial with a new architectural and colored design of the front. There have also been changes on the stage and its aesthetics has been improved in an outstanding way. The second part of the reconstruction was finished in 1998 – it has spread mainly space for various social occasions. In the former building there has been former a foyer which is used as an exhibition hall.

The adjoining tract of the two buildings (they used to be a restaurant and a hotel) has been constructionally connected with the theatre and it has spread space for a chamber hall which is used during intervals and it also enables chamber and experimental performance or concerts to take place.

The final phase was finished in 2004 this enriched behind the scenes for a back stage which helps to move coulisses and there you can find cloakrooms for actors. Děčín The Theatre offers its habitants and visitors Professional theatre performance (plays, opera, musical comedies, ballets) and concerts of classical music (chamber and symphonic orchestras).
